Core Challenges for Connected Classrooms

Invite students to think, question, and communicate like historians.

Inquiry
Pathways

Explore the past through compelling questions that spark curiosity and critical thinking using five inquiry lenses: Mysteries, Decision Points, Counterfactuals, Patterns, and Interpretations.

Engagement
Strategies

Use hands-on, minds-engaged kinesthetic learning experiences to bring history to life and make abstract concepts concrete: Hexagon Connections, Source Cards, Timeline Tiles, and Board Games.

Analysis
Activities

The RISE Method is a four-step structured approach that helps students unpack and contextualize primary sources: Read Closely, Interpret Meaning, Situate in Context, and Evaluate the Value.

Interpretation
Exercises

Challenge students to compare changing historical narratives, consider how context shapes the stories we tell, and evaluate whose perspectives are centered and what evidence is emphasized or omitted.
